This site is for you! By default, when you wrap text within a cell, Excel automatically adjusts row height so that all the text in the cell is visible. I had all but given up when I changed the zoom on my spreadsheet, from 80% to 100%, and poof! I deleted the merged cells, saved all as a new document and tried again.
