Some LCD-TVs which are supposed to be compatible with computers through a DVI connection understate their maximum resolution in the EDID data. Analog mode is actually extremely good these days. I thought there might be a chance since even though it was plugged into the DVI-D port, the system still realised it was VGA. When the video card reads the EDID data from the VGA connector the monitor returns the analog version.
