- As you have a second Mac, a final step you could try before taking the iMac to a service center is to try to access the iMac's drive via your MacBook

I didn't expect much but amazingly the DV recorder now works perfectly and all the discs I thought didn't work in it, now do. Startup Manager Most Mac users will probably only ever use the single drive that came with their system. I wrapped the cloth around the business card and while holding the ends of the the cloth I very gently dived it for a couple of centimeters in the optical drive, Macbook Pro Cd Drive Not Accepting Cds loukashI don't think it pays for me trying to fix things myself. Thank you so much for this post.
CDs will read but make a horrible grinding noise on spin-up and spin-down.

It is NOT a hardware issue! I found new information here… Thanks for posting. In most cases, your DVD won't play on Mac just because the DVD you are playing is encrypted. Check This Out That was a kind of disturbing...
my problem is half cd goes i and then it comes out... I've decided also to replace my 120GB HD with a new 500GB HD and increase my 2 GB RAM upto max 3 GB. Magnetic power connector keeps falling off. just tried your solution and everything works fine now...
