I don't know really ! However before you get that drastic check the fuses. The problem was originally caused by the central lock switch on the center console. I think I will have to take my car to a shop and I will ask to have it scanned using one of the tools you mentioned.

The customer also reported that the passenger side rear view mirror started tilting down when shifting into reverse. I'm hoping some of the BMW experts here will have some knowledge on this problem and some great advice to get me back into my vehicle remotely! After I replaced the fuse, and reinitialized the keys, another fuse went. I hope they gave you the X5 since it has a longer stem, which accounts for the increased distance to the hood insulation so your falsing issue won't return.
